RPR Motors specializes in the repair and optimization of your Tesla Model S/X.
It is now highly likely that the battery is probably suffering from incipient moisture damage. Even an HV battery is not completely waterproof. Valves, seals, covers and other attachments must and should be checked, serviced and replaced after a certain period of time (approx. 5 years), regardless of their mileage.
…that still works? Thanks to our many years of experience with Tesla vehicles and many successful battery repairs, we have now developed a concept for servicing batteries before they fail. To prevent the devastating damage caused by moisture.
We can say that the probability of moisture ingress in the first generation of Tesla HV batteries is almost 100%. Sooner or later we will get to know each other 😉
We can therefore only advise every Model S owner, especially in the period 2013-ca. end of 2015, to have this maintenance carried out by us. You will not regret it!
In particular, we are referring here to the Model S60 S70 and S85 Gen1 battery version. The more modern 75/85/90/100 kWH variants in use from around the end of 2015 have a different housing and the 2nd (improved) generation of the so-called umbrella valves already installed.
During maintenance, the battery is removed but not opened so as not to exceed the maintenance costs.

We first read out all the really relevant battery data via CAN bus, such as CAC values (of the individual bricks), internal resistance, degradation, charge cycles, moisture in grams, etc. We then remove your high-voltage battery and inspect it for leaks. Your high-voltage battery is then removed, inspected and subjected to a leak test.
At the same time, we remove the side protection strips, clean them and replace the so-called umbrella valves so that your battery pack can “breathe” freely again. The frequently rusted fuse cover is then replaced with our high-quality, CNC-milled aluminum cover. At the same time, the pyro fuse is checked and replaced if necessary. The battery is then reinstalled.
As an extra, we immediately check for moisture ingress in the drive unit.
Under normal circumstances, maintenance takes approx. 5 hours. You are welcome to spend the waiting time in our reception with Wifi and a cup of coffee or stretch your feet directly at the Nürburgring or get a picture of the beautiful Eifel. You can now book an appointment directly here.
Here you can see the side protective strips. These can only be removed and cleaned with the battery removed.
Here you can see a typical case of a rusted fuse cover.
Easy to recognize: soiled & dirty umbrella valves
also very easy to recognize: The rear plate oxidizes and the sealing compound is infiltrated with moisture. The BMS was completely destroyed by water ingress.
Dirt & grime everywhere. Nice to see the imprints of the valves and thus also clear that they can no longer work properly with the density of the dirt.
This must be prevented: Moisture penetrates the individual cells of the modules.
